NEXT-VET is an Erasmus+ project in which seven organisations from five European countries build exergaming and neurofeedback into vocational education, to improve student well-being, focus and physical activity. It runs from 2025 to 2028 and publishes its tools and findings free to use.

Vocational students across Europe report high levels of stress, low physical activity and disengagement: in the project’s own research, 30 to 42 per cent experience moderate to severe psychological distress. NEXT-VET responds by building two things into the curriculum itself. Exergaming turns physical activity into something students want to do, including those who avoid traditional sport. Neurofeedback gives students real-time insight into their own focus and stress, so they can learn to steer it. Both are designed around the Affective-Reflective Theory, which explains why some habits last and others collapse. The project runs from November 2025 to October 2028, coordinated by ROC van Amsterdam-Flevoland, with partners in the Netherlands, Finland, Spain, Germany and Portugal. Everything it produces — reports, toolkits, teacher training — is published openly, so schools beyond the consortium can use it.
