Research and analysis of the current situation
Finding out how VET students across five countries are actually doing, before anything is built.
Objectives
- Map student well-being, motivation, physical activity and learning barriers in five countries
- Review existing exergaming and neurofeedback interventions in European VET
- Develop the measurement methodology for the whole project
- Produce a comparative report that sets the direction for the interventions
What happens
The work ran as five national strands plus cross-cutting activities. Each country partner collected data in its own VET institutions on well-being, engagement, motivation, the role of physical activity and barriers to learning. Mulier Instituut and Sport Data Valley processed and analysed the combined dataset, ESAB Fachhochschule designed the research methods and quality control with the University of Potsdam, and Savonia contributed the health science input.
The result is the comparative report published in June 2026, which found that roughly 30 to 42 per cent of VET students across the five countries experience moderate to severe psychological distress, and that the pressures behind those numbers are institutional as much as individual.
